Arrow "City of Blood" Thoughts/Review!

What could be better than having a Wednesday night with 2 game 7s on for the NHL? OH YEA!!! Arrow! You know the drill my friends, didn't watch it, go watch it now then come back and read this article. So lets get into it.

Major Plot Points

  • Episode opens with Moria's funeral
  • Oliver Queen is not in attendance
  • The search for Ollie begins
  • Dig and Felicity seek the help of Amanda Lawler after failing to find Ollie themselves
  • The reincarnated Isabelle Roschev informes Thea Verdant is closing
  • ARGUS team finds Ollie in a hide out that was unknown to every one except Ollie
  • Ollie claims to sacrifice himself to end the suffering of his friends and family
  • Laurel does some detective work and discovers the new Mayor Blood is working with Slade and was involved with Moria's murder
  • When Ollie goes to meet Slade, he is shot with what I can assume is a sleeping dart
  • He awakens not only to his team, but to Laurel who reveals she has known since Slade told her
  • The combination of both Felicity and Laurel convince Ollie that the city needs him more than ever
  • Laurel also tells Ollie of Sebastian Blood's involvement with Slade and his mother's murder
  • Team Arrow moves in on Blood
  • Felicity shoes her true colors by completely (or almost completely) bankrupting Blood's personal body guard who has about 2 million dollars to his name
  • Ollie and Sebasitan sit down where Ollie reveals to Blood he is the Arrow and Blood reveals to Ollie the plans for his army
  • Ollie tracks Blood underground to discover his army is prepped and ready
  • Fight scenes finally begin not only underground, but in the train station where Thea is, and the Police Station where Officer Lance is
  • Ollie is saved by Laurel while being choked
  • Diggle gets knocked out by Ravager aka Isabelle Roschev dressed in a horrible replication of Slade's suit
  • Ollie and Laurel are buried beneath a pile or rubble after blowing up the ceiling
  • Blood's army released into the streets

What I Liked:
  • The back up Arrow cave
  • Laurel looks to be getting involved with team Arrow
  • Ollie realizes how much the city needs him
  • The bad ass moves by Felicity
  • Slade/Blood's army looks badass
  • The undercover foot soldiers of the army planted amongst the city
  • Things are about to really heat up in Starling

What I Disliked:
  • Episode didn't pick up until the last 10 minutes
  • Lot of up and down CW moments
  • Lots of talking and repetitive conversations
  • Barley any action this week
  • Where is Sara?
  • Roy?
What to Expect in the Final 2 WEEKS?!?!
Ok so despite tonights filler/exposition episode setting up for the finale, there are certain things we should be looking forward to. The Queen's are officially bankrupt, orphans, and unknown to Ollie he lost the club as well which means his Arrow cave. Also, the greatest battle of his vigilante career is just about to get started. According to the preview for next week we see the return of a familiar character. I don't want to reveal too much before next week, but what will this character be doing while all this is going on. I also think its time to address this Felicity situation. She gets a call from STAR Labs which we know is working on the mirakuru but then we noticed Laurel question where she was. That question ended the preview for next week. Is Felicity bound to die next week? Is she leaving to go to Central City??? Does Laurel shooting a bow mean she could be more useful than most of us thought? I wouldn't mind more Katie Cassidy. Strap in for these next 2 weeks my friends. Things are about to go off.

All in all I give tonight's episode a 6 out of 10 rating!
Arrow Wednesdays 8/7 on CW

'Fantastic Four' Nabs Tim Blake Nelson

The Hollywood Reporter has just released an exclusive scoop that Tim Blake Nelson (O'Brother Where Art Thou) is in final talks to join Josh Trank's Fantastic Four. Nelson will reportedly play the role of Harvey Elder in the superhero reboot. Elder is better known as the villain Mole Man in the comics, but Nelson will just being playing Elder as a scientist. This is great news. A solid veteran actor joins up with the young guns. I hope Nelson will be set up to play the villain in a future installment. Much like how he was set up to play The Leader in a future Hulk film. That never came to pass, but maybe the Mole Man will. Fantastic Four is shooting soon and due out in June 2015.

Superhero Woman Crush Wednesday: (4/30/14)

Woman Crush: Emma Stone

The year was 2007, I was a plump sixteen year old watching Superbad in a theater with my father, when it happened. I saw a young beautiful red headed actress appear onscreen alongside a very plump Jonah Hill. I thought she had great timing comedic timing, but what really drew me to her was every word she spoke felt natural. Even though she was playing a role, you felt that a part of her really was the cool girl who you could joke about dicks and hymens with. Fast forward seven years later. With several projects under her belt and her real blonde hair finally revealing itself, Emma Stone has become one of Hollywood's most beloved actresses. In 2011, Emma nabbed the role of Peter Parker's first love Gwen Stacy. Her Gwen was intelligent, understanding, and beautiful. Emma brought her natural likability to the character and because of that, the chemistry between Gwen and Peter has been the highlight of the Amazing Spiderman franchise so far. In my book Emma will forever be that insanely funny cool girl next door. That girl who just has a smile that makes you want to smile. So check her out in The Amazing Spiderman 2 opening in theaters Friday.

"Easy, Bug Boy."

Check Emma kicks Jimmy Fallon's ass in a Lip Sync battle two days ago. Winning lip singing battles and being awesome is just the Emma Stone way.

Character Crush: Catwoman

For every great super hero, there is always a women who is either trying to rob him, get with him, or fight him. Today that woman is Catwoman. Ah yes Miss Selina Kyle is quite the character in Gotham City. Anyone running around in a black leather body suit who think she's half cat is A-Ok in my book. Plus the flexibility and the sneakiness doesn't bother me either. Although she has no powers or isnt even exactly a hero, Catwoman never stops amazing me. I bet you didn't know this but the chick can fight folks. She knows some pretty sweet combat moves, and knows how to make a great escape. Who wouldn't want that in a women? I'm not talkin about the creepy "I got attacked by cats so now I'm Catwoman". I'm talking about the classic Selina whose sly and knows her way around a good crime and robbery. So Bats, is it too much to ask to share and let us simpleton bloggers get a shot at Catwoman?? Well deserved character women crush for this Wednesday.

DC Comics Declares July 23rd 'Batman Day'

Finally there is holiday worth celebrating. DC Comics has announced in honor of Batman's 75th anniversary, July 23rd will be deemed "Batman Day". A day to celebrate the amazingness that is the Dark Knight. So what do you think the traditions of Batman Day should be? Everyone must wear capes at all times, smiling and happiness is prohibited, and everyone must brood for at least 4 hours are just a few of my suggestions. Here is DC's official statement and their plans to celebrate:

"In celebration of Batman’s 75th anniversary, DC Entertainment is partnering with thousands of comic book retailers and bookstores across the nation to celebrate “Batman Day” on Wednesday, July 23. As part of the festivities, fans who visit participating retailers receive a free, special edition of DETECTIVE COMICS #27, featuring a reimagining of Batman’s 1939 comic book debut, designed by Chip Kidd with a script by The New York Times #1 bestselling author Brad Meltzer.
In addition to the comic book, DC Entertainment is providing retailers access to an assortment of other collectibles to help in the celebration of “Batman Day” including a Batman 75th anniversary cape, bookmarks featuring essential Batman graphic novels and four Batman masks designed by comic book artist Ryan Sook spotlighting a variety of the character’s iconic looks from his 75-year history.
Masks include:
  • DETECTIVE COMICS #27: Batman’s first appearance, as drawn by Bob Kane
  • BATMAN ’66: inspired by the classic TV series starring Adam West
  • THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS: As drawn by Frank Miller
  • DC COMICS – THE NEW 52: As drawn by Greg Capullo
Fans who visit comic stores on “Batman Day” also have the opportunity to purchase ROBIN RISES: OMEGA #1, the first issue of red-hot new comic series from bestselling creators Peter J. Tomasi and Andy Kubert and GRAYSON # 1 by Tim Seely and Mikel Janin, which depicts the original Robin, Dick Grayson, in an all new monthly series in which the crime fighter turned super spy fights to clear his name.
Continuing the celebration, DC Entertainment is partnering with Random House to bring “Batman Day” to over 1,000 libraries across the U.S. on Saturday, July 26th.
On the digital front, the special edition of DETECTIVE COMICS #27 will also be available for free download on Wednesday, July 23nd at www.readdcentertainment.com and all digital platforms (Kindle, iBookstore, Nook, Google Play and comixology.com)."
Do you think I could get the day off from work by claiming Batman Day as a religious Holiday? I need a full day to properly pay my respects to the great Bat-God. I wonder how Batfleck will celebrate "Batman Day"? Probably by going on a vigilante spree to prove his worth as Batman. What can you do to prove your worth to Batman? How about head out to your local Comic Book Shop on July 23rd and celebrate Batman's 75th.

Now it's time to pump up those holiday tunes!

Honest Trailers Takes on Spiderman Trilogy

The Spidey-Bashing continues as Honest Trailers sets their sites on Sam Raimi's original trilogy. And you guessed it, ScreenJunkies points out how Spiderman 3 is the skid marks on the underwear of an otherwise grand trilogy. Watch them breakdown the good, the bad, and the ugly of these superhero classics.

Star Wars Episode VII Releases Full Cast List!

After months of rumors and speculation, many sources including Comicbookmovie.com have reported JJ Abrams has fully cast his Star Wars film. Here is a list and quote taken from CBM:

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film. Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

There we have it, the new cast. Personally I am most excited for Andy Serkis. He must be playing a motion capture alien of some sort. Gonna make Jar Jar look like a bitch. Not like that is hard to do. Star Wars Episode VII is due out in December 2015.

CinemaSins Does 'Spiderman 3'

This week CinemaSins tallies up the flaws of everyone's favorite superhero film Spiderman 3. Hopefully the forthcoming Venom film will redeem the character for big screen audiences. And perhaps maybe Sandman can get a proper treatment as the asshole he really is. Not the killer of Uncle Ben who only steals money to support his sick daughter. Does every Spidey villain have to be sympathetic to be in a movie? Amazing Spiderman 2 will answer that question when it opens in theaters Friday.

Superhero Man Crush Monday: (4/28/14)

Man Crush: Jack Nicholson

In the pages of Wonder Woman, there are men and there are Gods. When speaking about the great Jack Nicholson, I believe one must refer to him as a God to fully appreciate his impact on film. He has starred as some of the greatest characters ever conceived in the medium. Some of those characters were heroes that you wanted to cheer for, but the reason Jack is my man crush is for his portrayals of psychopathic villains. After Jack famously played the role of Jack Torrance in The Shining, he was cast as The Joker in 1989's Batman. Now most will argue that Heath Ledger's Joker is better than Jack's, I tend to agree with this, but Jack's Joker was the best part of the first Batman film I ever saw. I remember watching it as a youth and thinking he had captured my favorite villain's goofy psychotic nature. His Joker was also the start of comic book movies casting big names as their lead villains. Just take a look at the deal Jack inked to play the Clown Prince of Crime. 10 million up front and a huge chunk of the backend of the box office. He ended up with more than 50 million dollars for one movie. So Robert Downing Jr. can thank Mr. Nicholson for getting a similar deal for The Avengers, in which he got upwards of 70 million dollars. Well anyway, thank you Jack for being "The Man", and if you are ever looking for a buddy to go to a Lakers-Celtics game with, I'm your man.

Character Crush: Spiderman

This week is Spidey Week so what better person to have my man crush be other than the Web Head himself. Spider-man truly holds a special place in my heart. He was the first super hero I ever really got into as a kid. I used to watch all his animated series shows and of course his movies. Lets talk a little bit why he's so awesome. First off, he can swing, climb walls, and has a spider sense that every one in the world would love to have. Adding to that, he can fight. His abilities allow him to accomplish great feats when it comes to combat. Overall though, he is just a fun guy. Seems like the guy you would want to be roommates with in college, or maybe hang out with at a party. I mean why not. Kid is a brain child, plus he's got a great sense of humor. All these make the perfect combination for a man crush and well deserved to boot! Oh and get out and see his movie this weekend. Give him the respect he deserves.

Zack Snyder Confirmed as Director of 'Justice League'

Greg Silverman, the president of production at WB,  simultaneously confirmed through an interview with the Wall Street Journal that a Justice League film is in the studio's plans and Zack Snyder will helm the project. Silverman also went on to say that a script is in the works now and that it will "further expand the universe". The timing of this announcement makes sense due to the recent casting of Cyborg and rumors about Aquaman. Maybe WB can continue the roll they are on by finally giving us a picture of Batfleck in his new suit. Just a suggestion. Latino Review also came out with a rumor that Justice League has a tentative release date of  May 7th, 2017. Anyway, Batman vs. Superman is shooting now and expected in theaters May 6th, 2016.

CinemaSins Does "Spiderman 2"

With the release of The Amazing Spiderman 2 happening next week, CinemaSins has continued their tour through the Raimi Spidey Trilogy. Today's stop is Spiderman 2. It's always fun to look back on what didn't work in a film such as Doc Ock's advice on women. Try feeding poetry to a girl at a bar. See what happens. The Amazing Spiderman 2 opens May 2nd.

Jason Momoa as Aquaman in Batman vs. Superman?

Bat-News is reporting a rumor that Jason Mamoa (Game Of Thrones) has signed on for a role in Batman vs. Superman. Just a few months back the Khal Drogo actor was rumored to have been in negotiations for a part in the film, but denied having any knowledge this. Back then he was rumored to play Aquaman. What makes this news even more interesting is that it comes a day after WB casts Ray Fisher as Cyborg. So if this rumor is true, it would make sense for Mamoa to cameo as the King of Atlantis in the same way Fisher will as Cyborg. Do you think Jason Mamoa would be a good Aquaman? Do you think he is actually in the film now after now being rumored twice for a role? Sound off in the comments.

Fan Cast Friday! (4/25/14)

Its Friday, Friday, I'm not gonna finish that last part because Rebecca Black is a disgrace, but It is Friday and that means Fan Casts from your favorite informers!

Fan Cast: James Purefoy as The Joker

Why?:
I chose James Purefoy as The Joker. Purefoy has been in a lot of projects such as Solomon Kane, Rome, John Carter, and most recently The Following. Now his role in The Following is the soul reason why I think he would make a great Joker. As we all know, The Joker is a mad man, a psychopath, and just flat out crazy person whose one mission is to destroy everything around him including Batman. James Purefoy's character in The Following is very similar. He plays a psychopath killer with no regard for human life. They share the same resemblance there, but that is not the only reason why. In one of the most recent episodes, he comes face to face with the protagonist of the show and tells him  "you will not kill me and I will not kill you. Why? Because we need each other we make each other feel alive, we push each other to keep going that next step". Now if that's not Joker to Batman talk right there, I don't know what is. Leading up to that scene I always thought Purefoy's acting in this role reminds me a lot of a live action Joker, but now I was sold after watching that scene. So James Purefoy, maybe work on a laugh? Learn to put white make-up on? Keep up the good work and maybe we could see you playing the clown prince of crime one day.

-Brady

Fan Cast: Jensen Ackles as Matt Murdoch/Daredevil

Why?:
For the last 9 years Jensen Ackles has been salting corpses and exorcising demons as the sexy Dean Winchester on CW's Supernatural. Jensen has the athletic build to be able to pull off Daredevil's physique. and the intimidating presence that demands respect in a court room. Hell, for 9 seasons he and Jared Padelecki have basically been doing what Matt and Foggy do, except instead of stopping human evil-doers they stop ghosts. So I think it's finally time for Jensen to take that the leap from demon hunter to superhero. He has been taking baby-steps towards super-heroism for years. Back in 2004, he played Clark Kent's football coach Jason Teague on season 4 of Smallville. Then in 2010, he voiced Jason Todd/Red Hood in the much beloved DCAU film Batman: Under the Red Hood. So now in the year 2014 with a Daredevil Netflix series preparing to cast it's lead role, I ask Jensen to put down the stake and pick a White cane and some sunglasses.
THIS FAN CAST IS DEDICATED TO MY BIG SIS, ANDREA. HAPPY 24TH, YOU OLD BITCH!

-Christian

Tune in every Friday for a new Fan Cast! Who do you think should play the Joker? Who should play Daredevil?

Cyborg Has Been Cast For Batman vs. Superman!

Variety has the obtained the exclusive scoop that Ray Fisher, a mostly unknown actor, will be playing the role of Victor "Vic" Stone/Cyborg in Batman vs. Superman. Their source suggests Cyborg's role in Batman vs. Superman will be small, but he will "become a much more significant role as Warner and D.C. develop more films related to the Justice League Universe." So maybe we will see Vic suit up for a high school football scene. I know Shazam would sure be happy with that scenario because he, like everyone else in the DC universe, follows high school football very closely. But really this is exciting news. This confirms Cyborg will be a part of the future Justice League films. That though leads to the question who does that leave out? Will my boy Martian Manhunter have to sit on the sidelines for a few films? Possibly, anyone but holy trinity is fair game to be cut from the squad. So get your ass back in game shape Hal Jordan. You are replaceable. Batman vs. Superman is filming now.

Weekly Poll Analysis: X-Men Spinoff Edition (4/24/14)

This week on the poll, I asked "What X-Men Spinoff Do You Want?" The surprise winner of the poll was Mystique. She took in 41% of the votes cast.

The results went as follows:

Mystique: 41%

Gambit: 25%

Magneto: 25%

Beast: 8%

Cyclops: 0%

Analysis: Wow. What I really found surprising was that Scott Summers received no love whatsoever. Cyclops from the comics is perhaps the most popular mutant, but according to our poll that poor sun-glassed bastard will continue to be obscure within the X-Men movie universe. Brian Singer made the decision back in 2001 to focus in on Wolverine rather than Cyclops. And because of that Hugh Jackman has become a superstar for playing Wolvie, while most people cannot even recall who played Cyclops in the original trilogy. That actor's name is James Marsden. Have you heard that name lately? Probably not. He is not in much. I just like to wonder sometimes if Cyclops was given a more proper and prominent treatment in the original X-Men films, could his popularity have been rivaled that of Wolverine's within the general audience. I think it was possible.
Now to talk about something not so depressing. Mystique won our poll, which means people on this site are reacting positively to the rumors of her potential spinoff. Last week, FOX producer Lauren Shuler Donner spoke about how the studio is mulling over spinoff films featuring X-Men. The character she mentioned in particular was Mystique. Now the internet had mixed reactions over the news. Some were delighted to see the shapeshifting mutant get a chance for her own story. Others were angered by the rumor. They claimed Mystique does not have the popularity to warrant a spinoff and that this film is only a possibility because the studio is looking to capitalize off their casting of mega-star Jennifer Lawrence in the role.
While I do agree that Mystique's popularity alone should not earn her a film, I disagree that it is a bad idea entirely. Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique can find an audience in a movie landscape that has begun to embrace strong heroines in titular roles. Her Katniss Everdeen led Catching Fire to commercial and critical success. Earlier this year Shailene Woodley emerged as a fan favorite as Tris in Divergent. Audiences have clearly connected with these female heroes and you can bet your ass Lawrence's has the chops to carry her own X-Men film into the public's good graces.
Lawrence's Mystique could be the first female lead character in the new wave of villain-centric comic book movies. Sony has started this new wave by setting up their Sinister Six and Venom films. Mystique could be FOX's first villain-centric spinoff. Then maybe a Magneto film or Sabretooth film could be made. Everyone loves a good villain. Hell, I hope that villains take over the comic book genre and 6 years from now I am sitting in the theater watching Joker vs. Lex rather than Batman vs. Superman. Well anyway, I believe if the story is right and Jen is ready to blue up, this spinoff could be a critical and commercial success. Check out Mystique and all the other X-Men in X-men:Days of Future Past in theaters May 23rd.

Thanks for reading and make sure to vote in our polls each week. Make your voice heard. What do you think of a potential Mystique spinoff? Sound off in the comments.

Thanos Has Already Been Cast?

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Marvel godfather, Kevin Feige, spoke breifly about the casting of Thanos in the MCU. "There is an actor. I'm not sure we are ready to announce it yet." So Feige has confirmed there is an actor in place to play the evil Infinity Gauntlet wearer. My best bet is that Thanos will have a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy, then be upgraded to the main villain in Avengers 3. So who is this mystery actor? Sylvester Stallone perhaps? Just Kidding. The year is 2014, not 1988. Who do you think the mystery actor is? Sound of in the comments.

Arrow "Seeing Red" Thoughts/ Review!

Come one. Come all its Wednesday night and we know that that means. Arrow! Alright the usual precautions are necessary due to major spoilers. Didn't watch the episode? Shame on you go watch it then come back and read it. Let us begin....

So despite my cable cutting in and out, I did not miss the plot points...
Major Plot Points

  • Roy escapes the Arrow cave
  • Roy goes on a rampage
  • Roy starts killing people
  • Team Arrow goes after Roy all except Diggle who is instructed to watch Thea
  • Meanwhile Moria Queen tells Sebastian Blood her decision to drop out of the election
  • Roy takes out a huge group of dudes, including Sin, and runs for refuge in Sin's clock tower
  • Arrow and Canary follow him there
  • Canary gets knocked out, Roy catches Arrow's arrow (hehehe) then promptly dislocates his knee
  • Roy has hallucinations of Thea telling him to kill her
  • Moria Queen and Ollie patch up their relationship and Ollie tells his dear mother not to drop out to prove to Thea that she is doing something right
  • Moria knows Ollie's secret and says how proud she is
  • Moria goes public with the announcement shes not dropping out
  • Thea uses the speech to draw Roy out of hiding
  • Sara says Roy has too far gone and must be killed
  • Intense moment between Roy and Sara as she has a gun pointed at his head
  • She instead shoots him in the leg, while Ollie injects him with three arrows of viper venom
  • Sara decides to leave because she is not what Ollie wants her to be (please come back)
  • The Queens continue on in their limo and they decide no more secrets
  • The limo is attacked by none other than Slade Wilson
  • Slade tells Ollie to choose who he is to kill Moria or Thea
  • Moria chooses herself, and she is run right through with a sword
  • Slade has one more person to kill on his list before Ollie.....(I think we know who)
  • Oh and Ollie has a child running around Central City somewhere?!?!

What I liked:
  • Badass Roy....Imagine what it will be like when he controls his powers
  • Action scenes were just simply amazing
  • Good to see Moria Queen and Ollie patch things up
  • Ollie has the strength of many men to fight through that leg pain
  • Heart racing episode through and through
  • Another Central City name drop
  • Moria Queen with long hair is a total MILF
  • Slade you sick bastard
  • The anticipation for next week is unreal
  • 3 more weeks!!!!!

What I disliked:
  • Diggle got his ass kicked
  • Thea is still a whiney little bitch
  • Sara is leaving :(
  • Moria is dead (that could go either way depending on your view of the character)
  • the CW Will They? Won't They moments (we all know them)
  • What was the big secret about Malcom Merlyn?
What to expect in the last 3 WEEKS!!!!

Honestly, after tonight, I can't even begin to describe where it will head next. They did show a little preview for next week we see the return of Brother Blood, Slade's army, and another masked vigilante. Since it was so quick I could not tell who it was. Anyways, clearly Oliver Queen's world is beginning to shatter around him as we knew it would. No money, Sara leaves so he has no girlfriend, and now my favorite candidate for the Starling City election/his mother is dead. What else can Slade do??? I think we all know who that last person he is referring to is. I wont say it because I could be wrong, but I have an idea. By the way, who the hell is Ollie's kid in Central City. Was that another Flash reference? Is Wally West running around Central City? Is Kid Flash in the Arrowverse????? WHAT AREN'T THEY TELLING US?!?!?!?!  Damn you. But I digress, next week should be unreal as well.

All in all I give this episode an 8.5 out of 10 rating!
Arrow on the CW 8/7

Second 'Sin City: A Dame To Kill' For Released

A second trailer has been released for co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Damn, though. This dame must really be something, if everyone is talking about her in this trailer. Is Eva Green, the Dame? Because if she is, I now fully understand the everyone's need to kill for her in this film. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For dances it's way into theaters August 22nd.

Superhero Women Crush Wednesday 4/23/14

Women Crush: Miss Caity Lotz.

Don't know who that is? Watch Arrow every Wednesday, she is the lovely Black Canary. Now before Arrow, I had no idea who she was, or what other projects she as been in, but does it really matter? All that matters is every Wednesday she runs around in a little tight black leather suit and looks hot. Is she the best actress in the world? I don't think so, but she is still the perfect pick for today's women crush. Also it happens to fall on Arrow day! So Caity keep doing what you're doing, keep kicking ass every week on Arrow, and keep looking hot as hell in that suit.

"Next one goes into your chest. Let him go"

Character Crush: Artemis (After the Time Jump)

Young Justice was taken from us too early. The late-great show added many different dimensions to the DC Universe during it's two seasons. Though no addition was as beautiful and passionate as Artemis. She became Green Arrow's sidekick and the main archer of "The Team". She was an aggressive archer who is never afraid to voice her opinions, who was always out to prove herself to her fellow super friends because her parentage gave her a little bit of a bad streak. She was the daughter of Huntress and Sportmaster. She should have turned out like her sister Jade and became a criminal, but Artemis was better than that. She fought her way towards the path of heroism and away from her father's kill or be killed culture. After the time jump, Wally West and Artemis were a full out couple. So Kid Flash and Artemis, I was wondering if I could unicorn in sometime? I mean I picked you both as my crushes this week, I deserve some kind of reward, right?

Son of Batman Review/Thoughts

Son of Batman is DCAU's 20th direct-to-video release. It is based off of Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert's 2006 storyline Batman and Son. This is the first film set in the continuity started by Justice League:War and in my opinion Son continues the trend of mediocrity started by War. DCAU has produced much better films than this, but there are some bright spots. Here is my spoiler free thoughts and my review with some minor spoilers.

What I Liked:

  • Damian and Bruce's interactions
  • David McCullum's spot-on Alfred
  • Damian vs. Deathstroke Pts. 1+2
  • Killer Croc and Nightwing Cameos
  • Deathstroke's raid on The League of Assassins
  • Damian's characterization
  • Mature Humor- Lots of sex jokes
  • Brutal and Bloody Battles
  • Old Robin vs. New Robin

What I Disliked:
  • A watered-down Deathstroke voiced by Thomas Gibson
  • Morena Baccarin's voice acting of Talia
  • Deathstroke's "Master Plan"
  • Batman's fight with Deathstroke
  • League of Assassins are easier to kill than ants
  • Still not digging Jason O'Mara as Batman

Review with Minor Spoilers:
The highlights of this film all come from it's title character the Son of Batman, Damian. He is vengeful like his father, but Damian is willing to go a step further and kill. This aspect of Damian causes much of the antagonistic relationship between him and his father. Batman has never had to deal with a Robin like Damian before nor has he ever been a biological father. So best parts of the movie come from Batman guiding his son down the path of justice.
Speaking of Papa Batman by the way, he likes to get down. He finally admits he likes sex. In fact there are a fair amount of funny sex jokes through the film. Dick talks about how Bruce always lectured him about using protection. Deathstroke calls Batman, Damian's "sperm donor". This humor is much more mature than most other DC animated projects and I hope that trend continues.
The fighting between Deathstroke and Damian is bloody, brutal, and unforgiving. Which is great, except it leads to the real letdown of the film, when Batman fights Deathstroke. Their fight lasts maybe 20 seconds and Deathstroke is easily defeated. This water-down version of DC's greatest assassin gets his ass handed to him by pretty much everyone. Not to mention, he ends up running away from most of his encounters. Thomas Gibson's voice didn't help matters much either. He sounds like a cheap James Earl Jones rip-off. I was waiting the entire film for him to tell Damian he owns all the land the light touches and not to go to the elephant graveyard.
Besides the lackluster battle between Batman and Deathstroke, what really was disappointing is Deathstroke's plan. He wanted to create an army of ninja man-bats. It was a nifty idea that was easily defeated by Batman throwing a few batarangs that produce sonar. Thank God, Damian had to fight Deathstroke a second time in the climax or it would have been Batman's easiest victory in all of his DCAU outings.
Overall this is a mediocre film for DCAU standards. You won't be saying that this film is better than the Dark Knight Returns or Flashpoint Paradox anytime soon. But for all it's flaws, this is not a bad film by any means. Damian is the saving grace. His personality provides plenty of action and humor. I give Son of Batman an 7 out of 10.

The film has yet to be released on Blu-ray, but has been made available for digital downloading. Get your Blu-Ray or DVD copy, May 6th.

Will We See J. Jonah Jameson in ASM3?!

So IGN was at a Google hang out press event with TASM director Marc Webb. During the session some one asked if we would be seeing the Daily Bugel's fearless leader J. Jonah Jameson in the upcoming Spidey films. Webb answered the fan by saying JJ is one of his favorite characters in the Spidey universe and that we should expect to see him in the future. That is obviously extremely great news because he is such a key character in our Web friend's world. My only question is this though. Why haven't we seen him sooner? I get the fact that in a new movie franchise like Spider-Man you have a ton of characters to introduce all at once. Yeah that's cool with me, but wouldn't J.J have been one of those characters? My opinion yes he would have but, thats why I am blogger not a Hollywood movie director. Either way very happy about this and very excited to see J.J in Webb's third installment.

CinemaSins Does "Spiderman" (2002)

CinemaSins takes on the Web Slinger's first live action movie in honor of The Amazing Spiderman 2 being released in theaters soon. Special effects sure have improved since 2002, but you can find many of these criticisms made in the video in about every Spiderman film. I personally hated how in every Rami movie MJ was in danger at the climax. So remember the immortal words from Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin and "Think about it, Hero!", when you say Spiderman (2002) was a perfect movie.

Also I personally disagree with any criticism aimed at J.K. Simmons' J.Jonah Jameson. He was perfect and probably can never be topped. So Marc Webb if you want the Daily Bugle Chief in your third movie, Bring Back J.K.!

Superhero Man Crush Monday on Tuesday: 4/22/14

Sorry about the the delay. It was a long weekend up here in New England, so we haven't had time to crush on any dudes till today. Enjoy!

Man Crush: This week's man crush is........Tobey Maguire.

Yes people the original Peter Parker, and that is the exact reason why I chose him this week. He has been in other roles along side such actors as Leo Dicaprio (Great Gatsby), and the horse in Seabiscut. But he seriously in my opinion played the perfect Peter Parker. Nothing against Andrew Garfield he's doing a great job, but this was my childhood and Tobey you brought my favorite super hero to the big screen for my little green eyes to see. Well deserved man crush ;)

Character Crush: The Flash (Wally West)

Wally West was my Flash growing up. The great Michael Rosenbaum portrayed him as the lovable heart of the Justice League in the early 2000's. Then years later, Jason Spisak showed us that Wally was the funny, wanna be ladies man as a teen too. No matter what iteration of Wally you like the most, he will always be the superhero that you would most want to grab a beer with. Batman only drinks ginger ale to maintain his physical perfection. Superman only drinks Budweiser with his mom. Tony Stark is a sloppy drunk and former alcoholic. Captain America can't get drunk. Doop never picks up a tab. So the natural and only choice to toast a Yuenling with is my main man Wally. You are my spitfire, pal.

Fan cast Friday: 4/18/14

Character: Carnage/ Kletus Kassidy    Actor: Sam Rockwell

Why: Sam Rockwell is a veteran actor who has a history of playing villainous roles. Whether it's Seven Psychopaths or The Green Mile, Rockwell always delivers a dark performance. Taking on the role of the serial killer turned symbiote owner would be a natural transition for the former Justin Hammer.

Character: Captain Cold/Leonard Snart    Actor: Gabriel Macht

Why: The authority, improvisation, and ruthlessness that Gabriel Macht brings to the role of Harvey Specter—one of New York’s best attorneys—in USA Network’s, Suits, can easily translate to the tactics Captain Cold employs as a veteran DC villain and leader of the Rogues. Cold and Harvey both heavily revolve around their strict moral disciplines, and the passion that Macht portrays Harvey’s fierce loyalty to those under his charge, mirror that of Cold’s approach with the Rogues. Gabriel Macht also has demonstrated his comic book chops in the Frank Miller noir, The Spirit, where he plays the titular character. Although the heavily stylized flick under performed at the box office, Macht convincingly plays his character up as the small-time “superhero” aspiring of greater things, including an oft-referenced metaphorical “marriage” with the city (coincidentally named Central City). It’s also fun to see Gabriel Macht showcase his mastery of “gravitas” in the face of Samuel L Jackson’s ludicrous turn as the dandy supervillain, the Octopus. The flick also showcases Macht as a physical specimen, which is much in line with the New 52 take on Captain Cold. The man is well capable of rocking the sleeveless hoodie and Cold’s signature visor.

Arrow "Man Under the Hood" Thoughts/Review!!

This Wednesday is a very important one. Why? Because Arrow has returned!!!! Not even going to explain anymore, I want to get right into it. Remember spoilers will be present so get caught up or suffer being spoiled. With out further adue let us begin....

Key Plot Lines

  • Arrow and the gang blow up a Queen Consolidated science department to cut Slade off
  • Moria Queen finds a way to possibly save the Queen fortune
  • Slade heads to STAR Labs to obtain the machine that will help him create his army
  • He is confronted by scientists named Cisco and Caitlin (We will see those two again somewhere else)
  • Slade gets his machine but not after being shot by some sort of sonic wave blaster
  • Slade and Ollie have a mini one on one fight where Slade drops the line "Don't forget who taught you how to fight kid"
  • Thea still blames Ollie and Moria for the whole Malcom Merlyn affair
  • We discover there is a cure for the Mirakuru
  • Ollie kills Ivo on the island
  • Laurel gets conformation and starts to suspect that Sara is Black Canary, but knows 100% Ollie is Arrow
  • Officer Lance after getting the shit beat out of him tells Laurel not to tell him who the Arrow is but to just appreciate what he does for the city
  • Slade fires his army building device up. Ollie tracks this to discover the location
  • Ollie finds that not Slade but.........ROY has been hooked up to the machine and is using his miracuru blood
  • Isabelle Roschev continues to be a pain in the ass by telling Ollie her and his old man were in love (Its the CW people) then she is shot by Diggle while Ollie retrieves Roy and what we later find out is the cure
  • Slade uses his own blood to create his army.
  • We learn Ollie chose to kill Slade and not cure him.

What I Liked
  • Non stop action
  • Non stop jaw dropping moments
  • fight scenes were on point as usual
  • Flash Easter Eggs (Vibe? Caitlin, Iris, Barry, that whole STAR labs scene)
  • The respect Officer Lance has for the Arrow
  • The entire Arrow gang getting their hands dirty
  • Deathstroke suit in full action
  • Slade's army
  • How about the whole 43 minute episode!

What I Disliked
  • Thea has to get off this whole Daddy issue thing (seriously Ollie did nothing wrong)
  • Still no real fight between Arrow and Deathstroke
  • Laurel pushing to hard to reveal Ollie's secret (but she backs off)
  • Officer Lance still can't catch a break

What to expect in the FINAL 4 EPISODES!!

Well people the final four episodes are here which means 4 straight weeks of Arrow! But here is what I think will be happening in these next few weeks. Slade's army is ready, Isabelle is back from the dead, shit is going to go down hard in Starling City. It will take all of Ollie's strength and skill to bring him down. I do not think they will cure Slade successfully, he is too big of a character and is already signed on for season 3 (spoilers). Also, look to see more of the two scientists from Star Labs Cisco and Caitlin. They will be the ones to construct the cure. Does this mean we could see Barry again even though the CW told us no? Can we trust that to be true? Adding on here, from the preview of next week, we see that Roy is alive and back at it. I want to see Arsenal, I want to see a suit on Roy make this happen. Finally, what will the out come be of Thea Queen? We know some one will be dying but will it be her? Is anyone safe? Is it next Wednesday yet? So much to come!

All in all I give this episode a solid 8.5 out of 10
Arrow returns next week! Wednesdays 8/7 on CW

Superhero Woman Crush Wednesday: 4/16/14

Woman Crush: Erica Durance

I was big fan of the show Smallville. Well, rather a big fan of the first four seasons, but what kept me around for the rest of the series was Erica's portrayal of Lois Lane. Her Lois was independent, strong-willed, and sexy. Everything that makes Lois the amazing character that she is. Erica, I may not look like Tom Welling, but I do have a Superman T-shirt so I got that going for me. So call me, beep me if you wanna reach me, if you wanna page me, thats okay.

Character Crush: "OHHHH MR. J?!?!?!"....Thats right folks Miss Harley Quinn. She's a bad bitch, the Joker's side piece but my god she's a babe. What more could you ask for in a women. Harley has got it all. She's got the looks, the attitude, and she ain't afraid to get her hands dirty either. For a pretty sick and twisted person, The Joker really knows how to pick his ladies. Plus I have a thing for blondes, so I just can't help to think to my self, if she was ever to appear in live action (possibly Arrow?) she would have to be played by a blonde smoke show. Either way, Miss Quinn you have my heart, never change.

"Aw, c'mon Puddin. don'tcha wanna rev up ya Harley? VROOOM VROOM!"

Marvel Studios Has Rights To Kingpin

Marvel Studios does not own the film rights to a few of the comic company's most beloved characters. Sony has the film rights Spider-Man. FOX owns X-Men and the Fantastic Four. Recently though MCU godfather Kevin Feige, in a interview with IGN Movies, confirmed that Marvel Studios does have shared rights to one of Daredevil's greatest foes, The Kingpin. Put one in the plus column for the studio because initially it seemed only Daredevil's rights reverted back to them which left us wondering if Matt Murdoch would do battle with Wilson Fisk on his upcoming Netflix series. Confirming the villain would be a big win for that series. Avi Arad, producer of the Spider-man films, then went on to add that Sony has access to the Kingpin character as well. A joint custody if you will. So maybe if Kingpin does show up in the Spidey-verse he could possibly be the antagonist of the Sinister Six film. Just spouting off a great idea. No big. Daredevil will be shot this summer, so expect casting news soon and Sinister Six is in it's beginning stages of development.

Awesome Final Trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past!

FOX has released it's final trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past and it is epic. There are incredible action scenes showcasing the Sentinels, but what really sold me is the amount of humor in this trailer. Compared to the first two, this trailer felt a lot less heavy handed. Wolverine really knows how to lighten the mood while he is on his quest to reassemble the X-Men in the past. Kinda reminds me of when Kermit reassembled the Muppets except this has prison escapes, robots, and skeletal claws. X-Men: Days of Future Past arrives in theaters May 23rd.

Is it me or did Quicksilver's scenes actually look kinda cool? I'm sorry Evan Peters I shouldn't have doubted you. I will watch the next season of American Horror Story, even though Coven sucked, as repayment for my sins.
