Guardians Of The Galaxy Review/Thoughts

On Thursday night the Informers got together to watch James Gunn's Guardians Of The Galaxy. Here's my quick thoughts and review. Mild-spoilers ahead!

What We Liked:

  • Rocket + Groot!
  • Chris Pratt makes for a great leading man
  • Humor that fits with the film's tone throughout
  • Star Lord's Pump Up Speech
  • Gamora's Badassery
  • Drax's literalness
  • Great special effects
  • Prison Fight!
  • James Gunn's direction and tone
  • First Real Introduction to Thanos
  • The team dynamics
  • Yondu and the Ravagers
  • Cool action sequences
  • THAT SOUNDTRACK!
  • Just plain fun
What We Didn't Like:
  • Ronan The Accuser was an underwhelming villain
  • The inclusion of the Collector felt forced

James Gunn brings together five relatively unknown characters and in the span of 2 hrs makes you fall in love with them. GOTG is what going to the movies is all about. It's just fun. There's humor, action, and a bunch of heart all packaged with an amazing soundtrack. Rocket and Groot shine while Chris Pratt also proves he is leading man material. Zoe Saldana's Gamora is solid and hell even Dave Bautista is awesome in this movie. The only beef I had was that Ronan was not the greatest villain, but everything else in this flick more than makes up for that. Last year's Marvel films (Iron Man 3 and Thor: TDW) underwhelmed me. This year's combo of Captain America: TWS and GOTG makes me much more excited about the future of the MCU than ever. So overall I give Guardians Of The Galaxy a 9/10. This is the must see movie of the summer!
