Fan Cast Friday: (6/6/14)

Fan Cast: Katheryn Winnick as Black Canary (Dinah Drake)

“Wait a second… Arrow already has Caity Lotz as the Canary, and the lovely Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance…”

That’s absolutely correct! And the Informers have been very vocal about being pro-Arrow. However, this fan casting is more about the upcoming Justice League movie under Zack Snyder. While it would be awesome to see Stephen Amell and other mains from Arrow be tied into Justice League, sometimes the cake is a lie.

Katheryn Winnick’s biggest role to date has been for History Channel’s Vikings, which wrapped up its sophomore season in May. Winnick plays the Viking legendary shieldmaiden, Lagertha, who pummels her way through Norse and Saxon warriors alike. Possessing unparalleled ferocity from fight scene-to-fight scene, Winnick also brings out a nurturing side when fostering her on-screen son, Bjorn, which distinctly reminds me of Young Justice’s version of a Black Canary who carefully mentors the young and inexperienced Team. Aside from Vikings, Winnick has found no shortage of smaller cinema roles and TV guest appearances kicking ass and looking fantastic. A big contributor to her ass-kickery is the fact that Winnick is a third-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a second-degree black belt in Karate, and a licensed bodyguard. Katheryn actually began her career as a martial arts instructor for actors and had three studios open in New York and Toronto by the time she was 21. For more Katheryn Winnick, follow her as Norse skullcrushing badass mother-of-maidens, Lagertha, in Vikings.

Fan Cast Friday: (5/30/14)

Happy Friday! Take in some sun and crack open a cold one. Now let us fan cast!

Fan Cast: Deborah Ann Woll as Poison Ivy

Why?: This more than just about being a red head. Deborah Ann Woll has shined on True Blood for the last seven years as the once devout Christian Jessica Hamby. Deborah's Jess is turned into a vampire against her will during the first season of the show. From there on her character transforms from a scared church girl into a beautiful, strong, vampire seductress. On the show, vampire blood is a lot like the toxins Poison Ivy uses. If consumed by a human it creates uncontrollable sexual attraction to the vampire from which it came. Ivy's toxins have similar effects. On top of all that, Deborah's Jess has never shied away from some violence to help her cause just like Poison Ivy is willing to do for hers. Deborah has the looks, talent, and experience to play Batman's botanical foe. Check out Deborah's Jessica on True Blood when it returns for it's final season in June on HBO.

Fan Cast Friday: (5/9/14)

Happy Friday! Let us FANCAST!

Fancast: Casey Affleck as Lincoln March/ Owlman

Why?: Ben Affleck's brother as Bruce Wayne's "possible" brother, sounds like a match made in heaven. Scott Snyder introduced the character of mayoral candidate Lincoln March in the story arc The Court of Owls in 2011. As the tale progressed, March reveals himself to really be Thomas Wayne Jr. or rather Bruce's younger brother. Batman of course does not believe March because that would mean his parents lied to him, which Bruce sees as impossible. One thing Bruce cannot deny however is that his resemble to March is uncanny. So who better to play Batfleck's younger brother than his real life younger brother. Casey and Ben have collaborated several times in the past and much of that has resulted in Casey's best work. In Ben's first directorial venture, Gone Baby Gone, Casey shined as lead protagonist Patrick Kenzie who must decide what is right and what is wrong in a dark mystery about child abduction. The same year Casey nabbed a Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Robert Ford. That film showcases him as a man who hides his true intentions then betrays the lead protagonist, Brad Pitt's Jesse James. Sounds awfully similar to March's story. Combine his resemblance to Batfleck, their past successful collaborations, and his Oscar nominated acting chops and Casey Affleck is a perfect candidate to play Lincoln March.

This is one of my favorite scenes from Gone Baby Gone. Boston in a nutshell.
