'Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes' Thoughts/Review!

Last night the Informers got together to watch Matt Reeve's Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. Here's my quick thoughts and review. Mild-spoliers ahead!

What We Liked:

  • Andy Serkis' performance as Caesar
  • Toby Kebbell's Koba
  • HUMAN WORK!
  • Ceasar's son blue eyes
  • MAURICE!
  • Jason Clarke's Malcolm leading the human element
  • Great message told through sci-fi
  • Incredible special effects
  • Post Simian Flu San Fran
  • Realistic Ape movement
  • Compelling story and character motivations
  • Apes on Horses!
  • Apes speech and sign language
  • The original Planet of the Apes-esque score
  • Matt Reeves' direction
  • Tension created between Humans and Apes
  • Parallels between both Ape and Human leaders
  • The final showdown
  • The end and where it leaves the Apes
  • The chilling opening credits
What We Didn't Like

  • The underutilization of Gary Oldman's Dreyfus
  • Other humans weren't as compelling as Jason Clarke's Malcolm

Wow! Just wow. We are huge sci-fi fans here at the Informers and it's great to see another amazing entry in the Planet of the Apes franchise. Andy Serkis and Toby Kebbell's performances are both incredible. Anyone who tells you that motion capture is not real acting is full of shit. These two actors make you feel for their characters and every time they speak you are on the edge of your seat. As for directing, Rupert Wyatt did a great job with Rise, but Matt Reeves tops him with this masterpiece. Reeves is able to create tension and story with characters that can only speak so limitedly. When the apes do speak, they volumes and that's a credit to the way Reeves and the writers set up the story. Jason Clarke was also a great addition as the human Malcolm. His arc was a interesting parallel to Caesar's. Overall I give this movie a 9.5 out of 10. Go see it! This is a summer must! After seeing this I cannot wait to see Toby Kebbell as Doctor Doom in The Fantastic Four. As well as see who Andy Serkis will play in Star War Ep. VII.

Andy Serkis Has Role In 'Avengers: AOU' !

A few weeks back, The King of Mo-Cap acting Andy Serkis (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) was called to the Avengers: Age of Ultron set to help Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo (13 Going On 30) perfect his performance. Now Hitfix is reporting that Serkis was there for more than just to help out Ruffalo and may have an actual role in the film. Today Hitfix's Drew McWeeny wrote about his sources on the set saying "...They clarified that he (Andy Serkis) is only playing one character in the film, and that the nature of that role is still meant to be a secret."

So who is this secret character that Serkis is playing? So many possibilities. With his mo-cap skills he can legitimately play just about anyone in the MCU. Whoever it is, I guarantee that it will be a scene stealer. Serkis's Gollum and Caesar performances are iconic and I expect nothing less from him as a Marvel character.

I loved Cap 2 and X-Men: DOFP, but Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is my most anticipated movie of the summer. I am on the edge of my seat for every word Caesar speaks. Gonna be insanely epic.

New 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' Trailer

FOX has just released a new trailer for it's sci-fi franchise Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The Simian Flu outbreak has completely changed the world since the end of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. San Fransico looks like hell. Most of the Earth's people are dead. Gary Oldman is crying like a bitch. And there is only one person to blame for all the devastation and destruction. James Franco. Thanks a lot dickhead. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes opens in theaters July 11th.

I'm also 100% sure that Andy Serkis' Caesar speaks English better than I do. I bet he and all his ape pals could put on a mean production of 'Dr. Zaius, Dr. Zaius'.
