Marvel Netflix's titular The Defenders isn't the grand slam we had all hoped for. It's more like a double that only knocked in a run or two. Here's why:
Finn Jones and Danny Rand continues to be uncompelling. This man child chi-user seems out of place from his counterparts. I cannot fathom seeing this version of Danny becoming best friends with Luke Cage. Centering this show's entire premise was not a good idea.
You would think with the episode order cut from the Netflix average of 13 down to just 8 that this team-up would need to pick up its pace in order to tell a cool and action-packed narrative for the first meeting of its heroes, but sadly this is not the case. The main plot moves at a snail's pace with a few dust-ups sprinkled in (Don't worry, the hallways and dark alleyway fights for which we have become accustomed are there). But unlike the current season of Game of Thrones, which also saw it's episodes cut, The Defenders is notusing it's short schedule to make all 8 episodes exciting. The series so far just doesn't feel worth it. Maybe this should have a 2 hour Netflix movie instead?
To the show's credit, it has delivered some great character moments. With at least a full season of stories devoted to each of the main protagonists (Luke, Matt, Jessica, and Danny), the audience knows these characters pretty well, but seeing them all finally interact with one another is exciting (even if it takes several episodes to finally happen). The side players (Foggy, Colleen, Claire, Misty, Rachel) are delegated to the background but each of them is always a welcome prescene, as is the great Scott Glenn's Stick, who plays an incredibly angry old man just the way Frank Miller intended.
Overall the show is just solid. So much of our media is thought of as either great or shit. Well guess what there is something called the middle and that is where The Defenders lies. My suggestion: Cut each individual show's episodes down to ten a piece and make the next Defenders a team-up movie. But hey I'm only mid-way through, maybe the second half is great and I'm just a whiny ass. I sure hope so.
P.S. Add in Blade, Punisher, or Ghost Rider to the mix for the next round.
Back in December of 2013, Zack Snyder (300) announced that model turned actress Gal Gadot would play the part of Wonder Woman in Batman V Superman. I remember feeling very uneasy about an inexperienced actress taking on the role of Diana. Flashfoward to now now and I will openly admit I'm a goddamn moron. Gal Gadot IS Wonder Woman. She truly embodied what comic readers have loved about the character for the past 76 years. As for Chris Pine (Star Trek) he can act in anything he wants until the end of time. He was incredible. Last thing I wanna say is NO MAN'S LAND. Wow that scene is truly epic, meaningful, and beautiful. If you dont have a ticket yet, go get one. Go see this movie ASAP. P.S. Thank you Patty Jenkins. You rock.
Thor movies are the powdered donuts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They are in a donut box populated by the more popular flavors such as Boston Creme and Glazed. If you have to choose a Thor movie you would because it's in the box, but no way would you pick it as your favorite of the dozen of Marvel's other offerings. Thor: Ragnarok on the other hand is set to change this franchise's dry powdery past. Director Taika Waititi's (Hunt For the Wilder People) Thor movie looks bonkers fun. Check it out.
Guardians Of the Galaxy was the surprise hit of summer 2014. So it was of no surprise that Marvel Studios locked up director/writer James Gunn for a second installment. Check out it's first trailer.
1. Baby Groot is everything and has been everything for about 3 years now.
2. The trailer gives away zero plot. A move which is totally uncommon by today's trailer standards.
3. I found the lack of Kurt Russell disappointing, but James Gunn is probably saving the reveal of EGO the living planet for the movie.

The Batman himself, Ben Affleck (Justice League), dropped a cool piece of footage from what appears to be the Justice League (2017) set on all of his social media platforms earlier today. The footage appears to be confirmation that DC villain Deathstroke will be in DC's superhero team up. Check it out:
So this must mean that Deathstroke is in Justice League, right? Well maybe or maybe not because according to The Wrap's scoop master supreme, El Mayimbe, Deathstroke will feature as the main antagonist in Ben Affleck's Batman solo movie. Many had assumed that Jared Leto's Joker would face off with the Dark Knight in his new solo flick, but that appears to not be the case. Deathstroke could definitely cameo in Justice League and then star in The Batman. Or some are suggesting this could just be a costume test just for the Bat's solo film and Slade will not appear in JL.
Personally I hope to see the Terminator in both. Just imagine the fights Batman and Slade will have. Those will definitely rival the warehouse scene from Batman V Superman (2016). Or maybe Zack Snyder wants to recreate the moment from Brad Metzler's Identity Crisis when Deathstroke takes down the whole Justice League by himself. That would be sick.

Guess those Green Lantern rumors were a load of bullshit cause Chris Pine (Star Trek) has officially joined the cast of Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman as Steve Trevor. The Wrap has reported that Pine will star opposite Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman as her main love interest/compatriot. They also go on to give a quick description of what to expect of Pine's character "Steve Trevor will be no mere love interest for Gadot’s Diana Prince, as there will be plenty of action to keep him busy."Wonder Woman will hit theaters in 2017. Pine is a fine addition to the Wonder Woman mythos. He can serve as a romantic interest to Diana, but at the same time can add ties to the government and even Amanda Waller.

Forget Batman and Superman, the real greatest team up of all time is taking place behind the camera. Warner Bros has announced that Academy Award winning talent and current Batman, Ben Affleck (The Town), will be directing as well as starring in the next Batman solo film! So who did WB decide to team with their one man wrecking crew to write this bad boy? None other than their top DC comics writer, Geoff Johns (The Flash)! Holy shit, right? That is one hell of a tag team. Affleck is a life long fan of the character and Johns has written the Bat on multiple occasions. So expect the most comic accurate and badass Batman to date on the silver screen. The movie is expected to shoot after Affleck wraps up production on Dennis Lehane's Live By The Night. Wow, what a difference 48 hrs. can make? Two days ago, I ruthlessly shat all over WB because I thought they let Michelle MacLaren (Game of Thrones) go for stupid reasons. Then yesterday several outlets reported that maybe WB wasn't so misguided in not agreeing with her vision of Diana. Apparently Michelle had some crazy ass ideas that she wanted to implement in the Wonder Woman film. Such as giving Diana a tiger sidekick that she could talk to and confide in. Finally Jasmine from Aladdin and Diana would have more in common than just being princesses! And if that wasn't strange enough for ya, Michelle wanted to set the film during the world's most famous war, the Crimean War. Yup that notable war that saw the fall of the once great Ottoman Empire. (Yup you bet your ass I googled that shit). And just when I thought my theories looked stupid enough already, the final bomb dropped that completely blew up everything I said two days ago. According to inside sources, Scott Eastwood (The Longest Ride) is not going to be Steve Trevor in the DC movie universe. So my idea that WB wanted his romance with Diana at the forefront of the movie is total bullshit.

So here I am with no other option, but to apologize to WB for my abrupt comments. I thought you guys were getting cold feet, but just maybe you guys do have some semblance of what should and what shouldn't be in a Wonder Woman film.

Okay now that I'm done kissing ass, it's time for some good news. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Patty Jenkins (Monster) has inked a deal that will put her at the helm of Wonder Woman. She was supposed to direct Thor 2 a few years back, but like MacLaren here, she left for creative differences. So I'm guessing that WB and her have a specific vision together or they would not have signed her up. Can't have two directors leaving one project. That shit would be bad for business. And best of all because this deal happened so quickly, the movie is still planning on shooting this fall and opening in 2017! Hopefully tiger-free!

Bad news for Wonder Woman fans! The Hollywood Reporter has found out that director Michelle MacLaren (Game Of Thrones) has left the upcoming Wonder Woman film that is set to star Gal Gadot (Fast Five) and maybe Scott Eastwood (The Last Ride). The main reason for her departure is being cited as "creative differences with WB" for the direction of the project. No replacement has been named and the movie is still currently slated for 2017. Wonder Woman is an icon. She has long deserved the movie treatment. And this news is just another kick in the balls. Michelle MacLaren is a talented person. It sucks to lose her. Similarly Joss Whedon left a potential Wonder Woman movie a few years back. My question is what the fuck are the "creative differences" that WB wants that are turning off all these talented people off with? Do want her to be a damsel in distress for Steve Trevor to save? Do they want her to be a porn star? Cause seriously whatever it is they need to cut the shit and let the creative people craft the character and story.
My best guess to why MacLaren left is that WB probably wanted a large romance subplot tied to Scott Eastwood's Steve Trevor and she didn't want to focus on that bullshit and left. That's just me though cause I'm pretty much done with romance in superhero properties. (I'm such a happy person!) It's ruining Arrow right now. Olicitiy is a fucking disease that has infected the show and changed the funny, charismatic Felicity into weepy romantic fodder for Ollie and Ray to fight over. But back to Wonder, my point is that WB needs to stop turning everyone off with their idea of a Wonder Woman movie. Cause clearly people who know stuff about the character don't like their ideas.
Diana is one of my favorite heroes. She has had many great runs in comics by some awesome writers like George Perez, Gail Simone, Greg Rucka, and most recently Brian Azzarello. The movie could just put the ideas straight from there and I'd be happy. Or fuck it be lazy just adapt the 2009 animated movie that starred Keri Russell (The Americans) as Diana. Personally I don't care what you do just get this movie made. We have heard bullshit excuses for years like "writing a female led film is tricky" and "we just got to get the right people in place". I'm done with that crap. Hunger Games is one of the highest grossing franchises of all time. Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow is one of the most popular characters at Marvel. Women can kick ass. They are not tricky to write for. Just ask Game Of Thrones author George RR Martin.
There is nothing tricky about it. Craft a vision for the characters and let's do this shit. Stop the excuses. Stop the dumbass demands to your creative talent. And make a movie about a superhero that every wants to see. Not just because she is a woman, but because she is an inspiring character who has earned the right to grace the silver screen. (End Rant)

Scooper El Mayimbe just dropped a scoop that Michelle Maclaren's (Breaking Bad) Wonder Woman will begin shooting in the fall. He also claim the design team is making 6 different costumes (including a dive suit) for Diana and they will include her traditional colors (Red, Blue, yellow or silver). The initial costume from Batman V Superman with Gal Gadot (Fast Five) as Diana of Themesycria was met with backlash for having no color. So hopefully those negative few including former Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, will be appeased by this news. Source: El Mayimbe

6 Things That The Spectacular Spiderman Needs To Do
Spiderman is swinging his way into the MCU. I still get excited every time I write it. After an introduction in Captain America: Civil War, the Web Head will be getting a new solo film in 2017. So I prematurely determined that film should be titled The Spectacular Spiderman and came up with a list of some things that Marvel Studios' take on the character should include. Enjoy!
1. Keep Peter Parker/ Do Not Retell His Origin Story! Ever since Marvel + Sony's announced their team-up, the name Miles Morales has been tossed around quite a bit. Some people are tired of Peter Parker's tale. Instead they want a different character as Spiderman. Miles is of course the Spiderman from Marvel comics' Ultimate verse. He was introduced back in 2011 and picked up the mantle of Spiderman after Ultimate-verse's Peter Parker's death. The real plus to Miles is that he would bring some much needed diversity to the Avenger's roster with his half African American half Puerto Rican heritage. Now while I agree that bringing in Miles as Spiderman does have it's positives, I still believe that Peter Parker should remain the cinematic Spiderman for now. Fans have wanted to see Spiderman chill with his fellow Avengers for some time now and having Miles being there instead of Peter just would not be the same. I wanna see Peter exchange quips with Iron Man and receive guidance from Captain America. He is the original Spidey and with Marvel finally getting to use the character in it's universe, I just don't see them not using Peter Parker. Now in the future I am 100% onboard with bringing Miles in as a replacement. Marvel Studios wants these films to run for as long as possible, so when the time is right Miles can take on the mantle of Spidey and carry the franchise into a new era. But until then, if Peter is involved keep his origin story out of it. Peter gets bit. Uncle Ben gets killed. Powers + Responsibility. We get it. We don't need to see it again a third time. The Amazing Spiderman had Ben die because Peter wanted chocolate milk. There is just no coming back from that. Do what The Incredible Hulk did and tell Peter's origins in the opening credits. Of course the film can allude back to Uncle's Ben murder and Peter getting his powers when needed, but just start the film with Peter having been Spidey for a little while.
2. Introduce New Villains
The Amazing Spiderman did a poor job of utilizing Spiderman's rogues gallery. Which is surprising because besides maybe Batman, the Web slinger has the best cast of baddies in comics. Which brings us to Electro. No one's favorite villain is Electro. Stan Lee and Steve Ditko don't even like him. That is until The Amazing Spiderman 2 director Marc Webb claimed that he loved the character. Then he turned Electro into a caricature and absolute joke of a main villain. Now if that's how Marc treats the things he loves, I sure wouldn't want to be his Valentine. So for the new films let's focus on villains people actually like and have set backstories, not a guy who looks like Mr. Freeze's ballsack and acts like Jim Carrey's Riddler.
Truer words have never been spoken
Several high profile Spidey villains have yet to have a big screen adaption. Electro was picked over greats like Kraven, Mysterio, Vulture, Kingpin, and Scorpion. Marvel won't make that same mistake. They will pick one that fans have been clamoring for because if the MCU needs one thing, it's better bad guys. Besides Loki and hopefully Ultron, the MCU villains have been very underdeveloped and underwhelming. Showcasing Spidey's kickass rogues will definitely help aid that nagging problem. Although I do have one caveat. Hold on off on using the Green Goblin for now. He has been depicted on screen twice now and the last time Marc Webb gave him fucking meth mouth. Pennsatucky from Orange Is The New Black has a better smile than that ugly bastard. Now this is in no way saying that the characters Norman + Harry Osborn should not be used at all, but what I'm saying is if they are used set them up for a couple of movies before suit up one of them up in the halloween costume.
3. Get An Experienced Director(s)
No more Marc Webbs. The guy was inexperienced with action movies and large budgets. He did excel in romantic moments, but if you look at #6 I say this next reboot needs less of that shit. So who should Marvel + Sony turn to for directing this bad boy? The obvious choices are Chris Miller + Phil Lord. They dominated the action comedy genre last year by directing both The Lego Movie and 22 Jump St. The duo has worked with a large budget and are comfortable with both action + comedy. Plus they have worked with Sony before and the last time Marvel hired a duo comedy director team, the Russo brothers, they got the best Marvel solo film since Iron Man. Miller + Lord are a perfect choice to steer this franchise back in the right direction.

4. Find A Consistent Tone By Telling Cohesive One Story
Besides it's laughable baddies, the biggest problem with The Amazing Spiderman was thatit spun too many damn plates. The movie had more story-lines than an episode of Game Of Thrones except that almost half of them didn't even matter to the plot. Truthfully there was just too much going on to care about anything. Important parts of Peter Parker's character like working for the Daily Bugle or going to college were glossed over in favor of showing us Aunt May become a nurse. Peter is your main character. Never forget that. Don't just throw Peter into a mishmash of random studio ideas. But by far the least interesting component of the mishmash that was The Amazing Spiderman films was the backstory to Peter Parker's parents. It was a story that had an obvious conclusion (except for the random subway laboratory) with little payoff. No one cares about Peter Parker's parents. We care about how Peter lost his Uncle because he didn't do what was right. He will carry the weight of Ben's loss with him for his entire life. No need to bring his deadbeat parents into the equation as well. My point is that there is no need to drudge up Spiderman's past anymore. The comic fans know it. The general audience knows it. It is time to move forward with the character instead of constantly linking his stories to his past. The last two movies to really focus in on Peter's past were Spiderman 3 thatlinked Sandman back to Uncle Ben's death for no reason and The Amazing Spiderman 2 that focused (well they didn't really focus on anything) on Peter's shithead parents. Let's leave the past in the past and move forward with Spidey. One final note for Sony. Do not try to set up any fucking spin offs. This comment is directed at Sony because they are still obsessed with making a Sinister Six film still even after making a deal with Marvel that squashed their original plans. Instead focus on the franchise at hand. This is your last shot. You can't reboot Spiderman again if this fails (at least not for a while anyway). So listen to Marvel and don't give us anymore of this Oscorp created every single bad guy ever nonsense.
5. Focus Less on Love Interests
Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy was a high point of the recent Spidey flicks. Kristen Dunst's Mary Jane Watson on the other hand was one of the worst parts of the original trilogy. So whether its Gwen, MJ, Felicia Hardy, or his fucking left hand let's have less focus on Spiderman's love life for at least one movie. Look at great superhero movies like The Dark Knight, GOTG, The Avengers, and Captain America: The Winter Solider. What do all these films have in common? Their romantic plots are minimal. Hell, if Peter is going back to high school so let's show him be a nerd and not getting the girl for once. Seriously the guy has gotten more ass than any nerd I have ever seen. Lastly on this topic, the climax of the film should not include Peter's current boo (if he actually does get one). In all 5 movies Peter has been forced to protect his girlfriend during his final showdown with a nemesis. Let's change up the stakes this time around.

6. Have A Connection To The MCU One of the coolest aspects of having a connected cinematic universe is that characters can pop up just about anywhere. Take Black Widow for example. She has been in 3 MCU films so far (also referred to as the Black Widow trilogy) Iron Man 2, The Avengers, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Each of those films is from a different franchise and yet Widow fits into each one of them. So while Spiderman will be featured in Captain America: Civil War, I believe Marvel + Sony should have some other character from the MCU pop up in his solo film. Now I'm not sitting here saying that Iron Man or Hulk needs to show up, but maybe one of Marvel's New York based heroes or villains can. Personally I think the perfect fit would be either Daredevil or Kingpin. Both characters are being introduced in Netflix/Marvel's Daredevil TV show set to air in April. By the time 2017 rolls around the Man Without Fear and the Kingpin of crime will have had over two seasons (assuming that the show succeeds) of development and will be ready for big screen appearances. Just imagine Spidey and Daredevil teaming up to bring down the Kingpin. This scenario could also help set up Sony's Sinister Six (hopefully it never happens because it completely goes against my 4th point) that they seem so obsessed with making still. They could use the storyline from the 1994 Spiderman TAS in which Kingpin assembles the Insidious Six to defeat Spiderman. Anyway I just think that those two characters could fit nicely into Spidey's universe.
Lastly, the Punisher was teased in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. So maybe just like his comic counterpart he could be introduced in a Spidey story. Seriously though I could go on for another twenty paragraphs about who could show up where in a Spiderman movie because the interconnected universe allows for just about anything. So just put someone in there Marvel + Sony.
Bonus: Bring Back Soon to Be Oscar Winner J.K. Simmons As J.Jonah Jameson Incredible actor who was so perfectly cast that he made Marc Webb and Sony afraid to find a replacement.

Recently she has been fighting with and against various members of her "new" god family.
Director: Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty)
Why?: Funny I wrote this now because it was reported earlier today that WB is looking at a shortlist of female directors to helm Wonder Woman. And of course my choice Kathryn Bigelow was right at the top of the list. She has been a fan favorite choice among the comic community to direct Diana's first solo movie for a while now, so I know she isn't the most original pick, but the reason she is mentioned all the time is because she is the best one. Bigelow knows how to balance action and characters. She gets great performances for her casts. Hell, her last two films have been nominated for shit load of Oscars (She won Best Director and Best Picture for The Hurt Locker). Gal Gadot will need a strong director to help guide her in her first lead role. Bigelow is the woman with the credentials to bring her to the promise-land.

Proposed Story:For the entire DC cinematic universe I propose NO ORIGIN STORIES. By this movie we will have seen Diana in action in Batman V Superman. So this shouldn't be about the first story of Diana in "man's world". She is already active, so let's get rocking and rolling.This story should be about Wonder Woman learning she is a demigod and that Zeus has vanished from Olympus (Automatically differs from Thor who has Odin around in his flicks). Which leads her to protecting Zola's baby (Her new little half brother) against a pissed off and scorned Hera. And eventually the First Born is unearthed and vows to conquer Olympus and the entire planet. Lastly I do want flashbacks to Ares training a young Diana (including that awesome Minotaur scene from #0). It showcases their relationship and isn't a total origin tale. It also adds emotion when Diana kills Ares to become the God of War.
Inspired By:I believe this movie will be heavy inspired by Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang's New 52 run. Recently producer Charles Roven said that Diana is a demigod in Batman V Superman, which is a key component to her most recent comic stories.
Lead Characters (Cast):By following the New 52 mythology most the cast will be Greek gods and demigods. I also decided to cast Orion in a minor role because although he only factors a little bit into the New 52, blockbuster films always have love interests (even thought they don't need them). And Orion leads to the introduction of New Genesis before Darkseid comes in Justice League Pt. 2.
1. Wonder Woman/ Diana Prince (Gal Gadot)
"I'd like to keep the illusion that there is a shade of moral difference between us and those we fight."
Why?: The lead character and hero of the story, Diana has long deserved a big screen treatment. I'm just glad it's finally happening. Let's hope Gal Gadot is up for the challenge of bringing such an iconic character alive. I think she looked great in her costume in the pictures from SDCC. We will get our first taste of her Diana in March 2016. Can't wait.
2. Queen Hipolyata (Lucy Lawless)
"Jupiter's Cock"
Why?: This an absolute lay-up. Lucy Lawless is meant to play the Queen of the Themyscrians. She has a history of playing Greek/Roman roles. Formerly she was Xena and more recently she starred as Lucria on Sparatcus: Blood and Sand. Hippolyata is in the story to tell Diana of her real father Zeus.
3. Apollo (Idris Ebla)
Why?: Idris Ebla is one of the coolest actors around. Apollo is the smoothest and coolest God around. This is just another match made in Olympus. In the movie, Apollo takes over Olympus after Zeus's departure. He must then join with Diana to defeat the First Born and keep his crown.
4. Hades (Peter Dinklage)
Why?: In the film Hades teams with Poseidon and the First Born to remove his nephew (Apollo) from the throne of Olympus. He does this so that he and his brother Poseidon won't lose their positions in Hell and in the Sea to the First Born as well. I casted Dinklage because he is a great actor and would definitely bring a fun take of the king of Hell.
5. Poseidon (Ron Perlman)
Why?: Giant Fish Poseidon is the best. He aligns himself with Hades and the First Born. He would be 100 percent CGI so anyone with a great voice could play him. I chose Ron Perlman because I enjoy his voice work as DC villains Clayface and Deathstroke.
6. Lennox (Tom Hardy)
Why?: Lennox is a tough as nails British demigod and half brother to Diana. His body made of organic rock. Lennox helps Diana protect Zola's baby and fight the First Born. Tom Hardy would be perfect for this role as well (casted him as Deadshot or Boomerang yesterday). I really should just cast Tom Hardy as role in the DCU. He is that good.
7. Hera (Rose Byrne)
Why?: Rose Byrne can do funny or dramatic roles. She is starting to nab roles in major movies and I think she would own as the jealous Queen of the gods. And she doesn't have to be naked the entire time like the New 52 run. (Unless she wants too!)
8. Orion (Liam Hemsworth)
Why?: Sent from New Genesis to aid Diana in her quest, Orion is both a love interest and pain in the butt for the Princess of Themyscira. His personality allows for moments of humor between him and Diana. Orion is also a major force on the battlefield. Liam Hemsworth's brother is Thor. To counter he should be the New God Orion (Darkseid's real son).
9. Ares (Liam Neeson)
Why?: He has already trained Batman and Anakin Skywalker so why not add Wonder Woman to that list. Neeson is a badass who can provide gravitas and grit to the character.
And now for the Villain...
10. The First Born (Javier Bardem)
Why?: A great menacing villain created by Azzarello and Chiang. He wants to conquer Olympus because Zeus trapped him in the center of the Earth. He and Diana collide towards the end of the film. Javier is an Oscar-winner known for his villainous portrayals.

Fox Studios has revealed future release dates for their Marvel properties. IGN and others report that Marvel's First Family will has a confirmed 2017 sequel date, a bold move considering the frosty reception the recent casting decisions for the 2015 movie have received. Fox must have a lot of confidence in Josh Trank/ Simon Kinberg's vision. The report went on to say that a third Wolverine solo outing, to be directed by James Mangold (The Wolverine), will also be in theaters in 2017. This comes at no surprise considering the success of 2013's The Wolverine and the character's overall popularity. Hugh Jackman can thank us for his Capey win anytime. Finally, the studio has also reserved a release date in 2018 for a untitled Marvel project. The Hollywood Reporter is speculating that film will be a Fantastic Four/X-Men crossover. That is something I want to see. I mean we live in the age of superhero film universe building, so I kinda need to see The Thing share a cigar and a drink with Wolvie. Anyway the exact release dates are posted below.
