5 Cool Possibilities For Season 3 Of The Flash

Last night The Flash ended its second season in style. "The Race of His Life" had lots of unexpected twists and turns. All of which led to a very excited cliffhanger.

The future of The Flash will certainly be different. Here are some of my ideas of what could happen when the show returns in October. (IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED THE FLASH FINALE DO NOT CLICK THE JUMP, MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD!)

HOLY SHIT, right? Did that just happen? Did Barry really go back in time and stop Reverse Flash from killing his mother? You bet your ass he did. That means DC's storyline Flashpoint is now in play. In that comic Barry went back in time and saved his mom (very similar to the way he did in the show). But when he returns home to his time, Barry realizes he has completely altered the time stream. Barry no longer has speed powers, Thomas Wayne is Batman, and Atlantis is in an all out war with Themischyra. So will the show follow suit and show us a totally different future now that Nora Allen is alive? I think so. Here are some of my favorite possibilities for Barry's altered future.

1. The original Harrison Wells from Earth-1 is now Alive

In two seasons of The Flash Tom Cavanagh has played two different versions of Harrison Wells. In season 1, Wells was actually Eobard Thawne (Reverse Flash) in disguise, while in season 2 a doppelganger Wells emerged from Earth-2. We have never actually seen the original Earth 1 Harrison Wells (expect in a quick flashback where he is being murdered by Thawne). So maybe because the Flash stops Thawne from killing Nora Allen, Thawne in this timeline has to come up with a different plan and doesn't assume Well's identity. That would mean the real Harrison Wells could still be alive in 2016 and be busy working on his particular accelerator (remember Thawne/Wells finished it ahead of schedule). This Wells will have never met Barry Allen before. It would be exciting to see how these two characters would interact.

2. Captain Cold becomes Citizen Cold

In the Flashpoint comic, Captain Cold becomes Citizen Cold - a superhero who helps take down the the Rogues. Now that is a big change from what we saw of Captain Cold the first two seasons of the show. Well actually due to his recent turn on Legends of Tomorrow it is not as big of a stretch for our old pal Lenny to go full hero, but it would definitely still be interesting to see Barry witness a superheroric Captain Cold.

3. Cisco + Caitlin become Reverb + Killer Frost

This past season introduced several of the main characters' dopplegangers. Cisco + Caitlin's Earth 2 counterparts were both evil meta humans who worked for Zoom. I think Barry's selfish decision to save his mother is going to shift the timeline and have his friends become more like their evil counterparts. With Caitlin + Cisco on the dark side, Barry will have lost a pair of close friends/allies. The real reason I added this possibility though was because I just would love to see more of Killer Frost. Danielle Panabaker is great as the character.

Fire + Ice

4. Barry never lived with Joe West + Iris

When you break it down to it's core, The Flash is a show about father's relationships to their sons. Dads are so damn important on this show. Wells/Thawne was a surroggate dad for Cisco. Wally and Iris's relationships with Joe are always being talked about. Even Zoom's father was crucial to his origin. As for Barry, he essentially has had three dads (Henry, Wells/Harry, Joe) and his relationships with each of them are very important to his development. So what happens if Nora Allen is alive and Barry's father is never arrested for the crime of killing her? Does that mean Barry never goes to live with Joe and Iris? I think that is absolutely what is going to happen. Joe raised Barry. He has been there for Barry through thick and thin. Season 3 will definitely be interesting if Barry's relationship with Joe is completely different. Barry won't have one of fathers/mentors to guide him.

5. Robert Queen is the Green Arrow

One of the great twists of the Flashpoint comic is that Bruce Wayne died in Crime Alley. Filled with rage and fueled by alcohol Bruce's father Thomas Wayne becomes a murderous version of Batman. I think we could see something very similar happen with the CW's closest Batman counterpart Green Arrow. What if because of Barry's time altering, Oliver Queen died on the island instead of Robert. Then Robert returned to Starling City  wearing a green hood. Could be a cool twist on the character and Robert's Green Arrow could be one of Barry's allies in fixing the is messed up timeline.

Bonus: Eobard Thawne, Eddie Thawne, and Ronnie Raymond come back

All those shifts in the timeline could bring back a whole bunch of old faces. The most exciting possibility is that Eobard Thawne. Maybe because Barry stops him from killing his mom, that the story where he ultimately dies in season 1 never plays out. That means Barry's greatest enemy could return because of the selfish decision Barry made. What would please Thawne more to find out that he is still alive because of a bad decision his arch nemesis made. Thawne did tell Barry he would never be happy.

What do you think will happen in Season 3? Will Barry significantly alter time or did I just waste a bunch of my time spouting off bullshit fan theories? Sound off in the comments or follow me on Twitter + Instagram @cstrand73 for all my comic book thoughts.

Also if you haven't watched The Flashpoint Paradox, I highly recommend you do so. The movie is now on Netflix and is ready to stream.
